Capitol Reef

After leaving Bryce we decided to take a bit of a road trip up to Capitol Reef National Park. The waitress the night before mentioned that the drive was interesting, and combined with the cold wind and less than stellar weather, we thought "Why not"

The landscape soon looked much less red. Which felt odd.


We stopped here and there and I tried to get some shots with fall foliage

This road was amazing, it ran right across the spine of the ridge. Michelle drove very carefully and made sure not to look over the edge


It was cold and felt like we were pretty high up


Yup.


But soon we had descended into the park

We drove into the park and you could see signs of flooding everywhere. It's important to keep track of the weather.

You literally drive in a dried up riverbed (or should that be "flash-flood channel"?)

I like the patterns, colours and shape of the rocks.

Very hard to read, but they used to mine uranium here and sell it in drinks. You know, a nice refreshing(?!) uranium beverage...

We also saw some petroglyphs, which were cool but difficult to photograph. There were going to be many more the next day, but we didn't know :)


It was a long drive home in the dark, but well worth it.

Bryce Canyon - Part 2

Quite a delay again between posts. November has been kicking my ass.

Back to Bryce...

After the hike Michelle and I went to

One day I`ll find a category for these types of photos. Landscape street-photography is the only thing that comes to mind.


Now a little story. I was terribly disappointed with my photos from Inspiration point. They just don`t capture how incredible the place was, at least, in my mind. I edited beyond heavily (It wasn't so much a cull of the herd of photos, as it was a slaughter).

Perhaps I`ll have to go back. Shooting this type of environment, you will fail in capturing what you see in your mind because it is unlike anything you`ve ever seen before. At least, it is for me.

We went further











The next day Michelle and I returned and braved 80+ km/h winds.





We worked our way along to the very end of the park, and to over 9100 feet.


With the wind blowing the clouds across the landscape, what you saw changed every few seconds.


And then we hopped into the car, and drove to a completely different part of Utah. But, that's going to take up a different post.

Bryce Canyon - Part 1

I could try to say it with many words, but I would fail. I will instead try to say it with many photos.

I found that I almost needed a human element or construct, like the brick path, to make the photo make sense and provide proportions

I like this photo. It almost looks photoshopped to me. Except of course I know it isn't.

And I love how it shows the path winding along. It was very steep. Michelle did not enjoy it :)

We hiked for about 3 hours. I suffered a bit for various reasons. It was worth it.

Michelle added Bryce to the list of parks she thinks people should visit before they die. I agree.
