Olympic pictures continued

Some photos that I didn't get a chance to post yesterday.

As I mentioned already, police where everywhere. I did get a chance to joke with the RCMP dive-team (I checked, the visibility was poor, in case anyone wanted to dive around the athletes village, probably best to skip it for a bit ;) )

They actually had 2 boats out at the same time, both active.

Cameras were everywhere...

... as were art exhibits. Here 'ecological globes'

The other thing that's everywhere: Fences.

It's the "No Trespassing Olympics"

This is as close to any of the 'houses' as I got on Sunday

When we made our way to the plaza of nations, it was like we stepped into the Night Market

... except of course for all the Olympic gear

... and flags

Hotdog vendors were doing good business

Did I mention that cameras were everywhere?

Another shot from Granville island. I liked the lines (my attempt at 'artsy' ;)

And people were watching

Actually the above was from one of the exhibits on Granville Island. But very fitting for the Olympics.

Some people seemed more at ease with being observed than others

Others just looked confused at where to go next.

And some things defy description.

But everywhere people were happy to show where they were from.

Did I mention that it was Valentines day?

Some people got flowers, some dogs got flags. Both seemed pleased

We eventually walked all the way back to Science world. Still in the crowds.

And again home via the skytrain

I still have a few 'street' shots to add, maybe tomorrow :)

In Vancouver for the Olympics

We went downtown for the second day in a row to take in some of the Olympic vibe.

Luckily, the sky train didn't get very busy ... till Broadway that is

But you do get a great view of the Olympic village from the Science World Skytrain platform

The Russians have taken over Science World and were singing outside

... a couple of people came to see them

We walked around False Creek

and some of the same old sights haven't changed

but now there are a lot more folks taking them in.

Police are everywhere and from everywhere.

But they seemed to be in good spirits. I joked with a few of them, including the dive team doing ops around the athletes village.

I was toasty warm, but still many folks refused to take off their Olympic mittens and toques

nor their fake, real Lululemon, imitation hockey helmets.

Dude, WTF were you thinking?!

We didn't get into any of the 'houses' due to the lineups and decided to head over to Granville Island on the watertaxi.

Luckily Granville Island was almost deserted

We took in some of the exhibits of the Cultural Olympiad and some were outside and well received. On exiting one display we found people staring into the sky

... at a human mobile

... of drummers.

Everyone was amazed

... and they were not stationary, but being moved around.

And then it all made sense

... they were Francophones!

And here is a bit better look at the 'platforms' they were working of.

On the way over to take the temporary street car line, we ran into the Swedish bikini team

ok, I lied. But are you glad? I mean would you really like to see him in a bikini?!

Go Canada Go!

It seems that everything is popular, the streetcar was no exception

... more photos tomorrow :)

Memories of summer

I'd thought of trying this shot a while back as I was leaving my living room and it was illuminated only by my laptop. I don't think it's quite as I envisioned, though close. Maybe with a slightly wider lens.

35mm f1.8 lens at f8 for 8 seconds.

New West photowalk

I really haven't gotten out and done enough lately. Or, if I have gone out, I've shot film, which has a very delayed gratification factor (thought I've gotten some photos I enjoy).

Tonight I decided I needed to get out, enjoy the nice weather and shoot.

I just did a small square for a 1 1/2 hours or so. And that included stopping at the bike shop and picking up some bar tape for the road bike (way overdue upgrade).

I don't even know why I like that one...

The Waterfront (colour)

As so often, I'm trying to decide if I prefer colour or black & white.

Single speed goodness

This bike is so incredibly light. Very sweet. The guys at New West Cycle are easy going and I think I'll be stopping in soon to rent a bit of bench space for a couple of hours and overhaul the Landau.

I like their Neon better than their Food

Plenty of Spirit

I'm seeing more and more Canadian flags as we get right up to the Olympics. I think it's time everyone stopped their petty bitching and supported our athletes now. But perhaps that's just me :)

Thank you, come again

That's all for now. Hopefully this will be the start to a very successful and active photography year for me :)
