New West (work) photowalk -- 35mm edition

I already posted the holga photos, now for some 35mm content.

"You cannot take this picture"

The security guard's day did not get better after he told me that I wasn't allowed to take the photo and then said "He would need to know my name" when I told him he had zero rights to try and stop me.

New West Holga

Last Saturday we had a little photowalk in New West organized from work. I went, despite the fact that it was raining.

Took my FM2n and my Holga.

Here are the Holga shots.

Old School

City Hall

I think this is an interesting photo because it shows just how warped the plastic lens is. It didn't turn out exactly as I'd hoped, I think part of that is due to the odd curvature visible on the stairs.

City Hall Tulips

I always say that I taking flower photos, I just never like looking at them. Partly true here. Still I thought I'd post it :)

Royal Westminster Regiment

I need to aim higher with the Holga. I consistently shoot a bit low, though in this case I wasn't expecting to get the first peak.

Moody Park

All in all, shooting a whole roll in one go helped me get a bit of a better handle on the 'plastic-fantastic'. Hopefully more interesting results in the future :)

Fenced Flowers

I really like the way this shot came out. The Holga does do a nice job with certain subjects :)

Have a great day.

Holga at Deer Lake

A little while ago I took the Holga along on a photowalk around deer lake (same time as I took a lot of the duck pictures, for those of you who are paying attention :) ).

Here are a couple of shot from the walk.

Both I adjusted slightly in post (contrast only).

More New Westminster Holga photos later today or tomorrow :)

What to do with a damaged photo?

So after my Saturday New Westminster photo walk (in the rain), the tape holding the film to the roll let go. I.E. I had film stuck in the camera.

Not a huge deal, I have a darkroom thank to Michelle's sewing and excellent use of velcro. But, in freeing the film from it's Nikon prison, I scratched one of the negatives. Turns out, it was one of the photos I liked the most. Leaving aside the fact that I seem to scratch a fair bit of film, I decided to go with it.

If you can't beat it, sepia and an old border :)

P.S.: More Holga and photowalk images soon.

Minnekhada Park Hike

On Sunday we decided to go for a little hike.

Holga in Whistler

When Michelle and I went to Whistler a little while ago, I took the Holga along. Light and cheap, it seemed a good fit.

Unfortunately, one of the foam bits inside came loose and jammed inside the camera. The film shows signs of 'alteration', though, with a Holga, is that really bad? :)

New West Dusk walk

A couple of things first. I'm going to break the photos out a bit different. In the past, I've displayed my photos chronologically. But lately I've been trying to shoot some specific items. In this post I will be grouping some by subject.

Second, not all of this walk happened at dusk. Sushi came in between a couple of parts of the walk ;)

B&W to start:
Old wheel-barrow

That's really more creepy than cute

Flowers and blossoms:
Yup, still spring

An early death

Inspired

I recently received my copy of Ansel Adams' Portfolios. If you've seen the book, you may remember what inspired me to take this photo. If not, maybe pick it up, some excellent images.

There really should be a third here, from my previous post, which is the Low Cost towing sign. It got me motivated to shoot old signs in the first place.

Industrial use:

The next three I'm grouping because they just don't fit well anyplace else :)

Do I even have to mention that it was an amazing sun set?

Same but different

Home

The earlier "brighter" stuff was shot with the 18-200VR, the later stuff with the 35mm 1.8. It's great to be able to hand hold at ISO 200 when it's just about dark out.

I hope you enjoyed some of the photos.

Have a great weekend.
