Got my first roll of film back!

Obviously, some issues with the lens, but it will do as a 'bad weather' lens.

Some initial indoor test shots featuring Bob:

Looks a bit over exposed, but the metering seems to work ok on the FG

This manual focus thing is hard! Lets call it an 'artsy' shot ;)

And the best shot from the roll... Jenn!

Now, I've been friends with Jenn for a long time she often comes along on some photowalks and ends up in a number of pictures as a result, but quite frankly I think that's the best photo I've ever taken of her.

Slideshow here

Some general thoughts on shooting film:
  • It takes longer. No sh*t sherlock! But seriously, people give you more time. You take more time (especially with a manual SLR). It takes more time to get it back.
  • The anticipation is very old school. In an age of instant results, actions, feedback, sometimes the waiting is ok.
  • I like it. Sure, there is a novelty factor, but I feel that I'm already learning more about shooting. Having a 50mm fixed lens probably helps. Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving up my digital gear. But I think I'll keep dabbling in this film thing some more. I've got 6 rolls of colour and then it's onto some black and white I think.
A new (to me) 50 mm 1.8 lens is on the way. Hopefully with less crap inside it. So more film results to come soon!

Thanks for looking.

We live in sad times

You'd have to know that the US couldn't let the Brits be the only ones being absolutely stupid regarding photographers.

Misson Raceway practice

Jerry and I ripped ... umm gently, yeah that's it gently, rode through some back roads and ensured that my kneesliders still work, they do, and then dropped by the practice at Mission Raceway.

If you're not into motorcycles, skip this post :)

Bernie wins the award for 'best shirt ever!'

Ryan (Naga) on Bernie's old bike

Not sure who this is

Dean had an "oops" but luckily the bike was fine! (I didn't ask about him... ;) )

Dean talking with Bernie and Jerry after getting checked out.

Fat ugly guy in spandex (a.k.a Ken) working on his bike. Ken beat all odds this season by making more than 2 laps without wrecking his bike!

Pre race yoga. Ken, put some damn pants on will ya?

Chicken strips on race tires?!

Some sweet old school bikes were out

Honda used to make some good looking bikes ... what happened?!

Then we had a kick ass ride home. Bikes ran great, we had good pace and it was a beautiful day. Both of us had some exciting times on sand today.

Hope you had a good day as well :)

Jenn's Birthday Photowalk

On the way to and from Sammy J's tonight, I took a few shots (some film too, but strangely that's not ready yet ;)

Old school

I decided to try and go with a manual film! camera. Apparently people used to use these weird devices all the time (who knew?!)

When good brakes go bad...

... actually they were never good. But anyways:

I had ordered replacements already (throwing that Coda crap out) but they finally gave up today when the brakeline severed. Not a good think to happen on a down hill trail, but luckily it all worked out (i.e. I didn't end up riding off a cliff or anything :) )

Snow - April 18 ... in Vancouver?!

I've lived in Vancouver for over 20 years and I've never seen snow in April. That's just wrong

10 mm hand held at ISO 1600 explains the crappy quality, but I just wanted to capture the moment...

If you're scared of small spaces, don't read this post!

For those of you that made it past the headline, how do you think you'd manage 41 hours in an elevator, with noone knowing you were there, no watch or cellphone to tell you what time it is or how much time has passed?

This is what it looks like on time laps security footage.

And here is the New Yorker story, it's a bit long but an interesting read in my opinion.

Walking the tracks

It was too nice to go spend the night indoors at the gym so I walked down the train tracks. I'd never used them to navigate before, it was quite fun to get a different view of the neighborhood.
