Reifle Bird Sanctuary

I took advantage of the nice weather last weekend to visit the bird sanctuary, along with a ton of other folks apparently ;)

Always enjoy the colourful wood duck






If it hadn't been for a few people already taking photos, I never would have seen the owls


This time I spend a bit more time in the bird-blinds and watched this hooded merganser for a while


It was quite cold, with a number of the channels frozen over










I always enjoy the cranes



These two were feisty


The un-assuming american coot, check out that foot :)


The snow geese were around, but I didn't get very close







I watched this heron find a new place to enjoy the sun and snuck around to have a closer look





This little guy was well camouflaged

This mallard was sitting in her own little hole in the ice


One the way out I spotted a couple of northern shovelers





They were very busy finding food, it proved tough getting a clear shot of the wide beak.

Great way to spend a sunny day in November :)

Foggy morning

One of the things I like best about October is the fog (even though these were shot in late September ;) )

Velodrome

Michelle and I went down to watch Pete race at the velodrome.

I'd never been to one before (and apparently there are only 4 indoor ones in Canada), so of course I brought a camera.

I shot over 450 photos, and a very very small number of panning shots turned out well enough that I thought I'd post them.

Icy walk - part 1

With the 'cold snap' we've had here, I decided to head out yesterday and try to capture some of it.

I waited until the sun was up and it warmed up a bit, but not so long that the frost was gone and headed out to Burnaby Lake.



Everything that had been in the shade was nicely covered in frost

Foggy Riverwalk

We went out on Sunday because the rain held off a bit and the fog was still hanging out.

The fog left a bit early, but it was still good to get out and be dry :)
