I went out today in the rain (Aside: safeway bags, when cut open and taped to the lens hood, make OK rain covers for D300's ;) )

Not that many shots, but this one I like and Michelle figures it's the best of the bunch that I liked.

New Addition

I picked up a Pentax 645 medium format camera. Very cheap and fun to use.

Plus, the image quality is of course excellent.



I'm having a problem with film loading so that I'm not getting 15 images per roll (only got 11 on roll 1), but that may well be user error :) Hopefully I can sort that out. Or maybe that's why it was cheap (in which case I'll have to create a DIY work around).

New West views

Such a nice afternoon that I decided to go for a walk outside instead of heading to the gym.

I was not alone in my desire for some sun


Further along, I couldn't get over the slight creepiness of the bronze child


I decided to head towards the waterfront


And you've got to cross some tracks to do so


Bridges are prevalent as well


I've been trying to capture some of the river scenes






People were jogging and power-walking on the boardwalk


It got fairly chilly as the sun was setting, but I'm very glad I came out

Sometimes you just have to try

I felt very indecisive tonight, but then finally got my stuff together and headed out.

Diving along I realized that there were areas that I consider to be just outside my walking range, but that none-the-less offer some nice opportunities.

I chose to drive past them.

Instead I went to Jericho beach and noticed a pier that, quite frankly, I had no idea was there.

While there is only a single image I actually liked tonight, I will still show some other for the sake of showing a bit of the process. Note that most of these will be quite useless in a 400 pixel size, you may want to look for the 'slideshow' link at the end of the post.





Both the above took some doing to bring out the sky.





There is much water and a number of poles in tonights images.







I would have liked to have gotten a few more shots of this young couple, but they left.





This shot is the one I like. At anything below 1000 pixels you probably will have no idea why.

I spent a bit of time playing with the fill flash again. Unfortunately, I brought everything except for the actual flash, so I had to shot with the on camera. Not as nice as I would have liked, but this next shot benefited as the water turned out very nice.

The first "Spring" day of 2008

It felt so nice and warm today, you could almost imagine that the date was March 22 instead of Feb 22 and that spring had sprung :)

So I grabbed the camera and headed down to the beach to enjoy a nice sunset.

I wasn't the only one, the beach was noticeably busier than the last time I was there to shoot. And on top of it all, a volley ball game had broken out





I didn't move far, there was much to see and shoot.





... though why so many folks were looking down instead of enjoying the view, I could not quite understand.

And now it's time for another game of "Colour vs. Black and White"





Which do you prefer?

If you view this blog regularly, you know that I'm always predisposed to pick B&W over colour. However, today I really loved the light, the B&W shot above is the only one in this blog entry :)
