Bird Sanctuary

Today I went to the George C. Reifel Migratory bird Sanctuary.

I'd stopped by there on a KLR 'exploratory' trip last year but never got to go in. It stayed dry, so once it warmed up a bit I drove out (thought I did have to check the map to remember how to get there :) )

I don't normally shot a lot of wildlife...

One of the big attractions right now are the snow geese. I didn't get very close, but they were definitely around.


I tried to get one of the nice V formations


Of course, I still looked for those non-wildlife photo opportunities.


Now that is a whole lot of snow geese!

The sanctuary is in between Ladner and the Container terminal, so there were plenty of ships in the distance


The highlight for me were the Sandhill Cranes. They were right next to the path at times





After the encounter with the first three it turned out that a larger part of the flock was just ahead.

I was mostly shooting TX400 (which will take a bit to develop) but I also shot a few photos with my point & shoot.

To say you can get close to the ducks is a bit of an understatement ;)

Signs of spring

Beautiful morning, so I went for a walk :)









"If you walk the same path, the same way, expect to see the same things". I try hard to walk the path in different was, to see different things:



I don't know what it is with the birds lately...





Sometimes I get ready to add a photo and catch myself and thing "What the hell am I thinking". So now this is black and white. ;)

The first "Spring" day of 2008

It felt so nice and warm today, you could almost imagine that the date was March 22 instead of Feb 22 and that spring had sprung :)

So I grabbed the camera and headed down to the beach to enjoy a nice sunset.

I wasn't the only one, the beach was noticeably busier than the last time I was there to shoot. And on top of it all, a volley ball game had broken out





I didn't move far, there was much to see and shoot.





... though why so many folks were looking down instead of enjoying the view, I could not quite understand.

And now it's time for another game of "Colour vs. Black and White"





Which do you prefer?

If you view this blog regularly, you know that I'm always predisposed to pick B&W over colour. However, today I really loved the light, the B&W shot above is the only one in this blog entry :)
